Tell us a little about yourself and your family. (Where you're from, how long you've been in the area, kids'/ages, fun facts!)

After spending a decade in Mountain House, my family and I recently put down roots in Manteca with the purchase of our first home — a milestone we’re incredibly proud of. Originally from sunny San Diego, I grew up as a surfer, motorcycle enthusiast, and devoted yogi. I earned my bachelor's degree from San Diego State University before moving to Northern California nearly 12 years ago to be with my fiancé, now husband.

Shortly after settling in, I pursued my MBA at Mills College — all while welcoming our son into the world, who’s now 10 and a half. These days, our family loves going glamping with our trailer, spending quality time with extended family, and enjoying laid-back afternoons by our new pool.

What inspired you to start your business, and what makes it unique?

PandaManage was born out of a simple vision: to blend the heart of motherhood with the expertise of business. After working in finance, bookkeeping, and nonprofits for over 20 years, I knew I wanted to transition into being a stay-at-home mom while still supporting my family. During COVID, my presence on the QuickBooks ProAdvisor site gained visibility, and I was able to help businesses stay operational during one of the most challenging times for small organizations.

Through that experience, I discovered two things: first, that many small businesses and nonprofits urgently needed accounting and bookkeeping support—but weren’t ready for a full-time, in-house hire. Second, that it was nearly impossible to find flexible, part-time work that supported the unique needs of moms.

That’s why PandaManage is different. We are a team of smart, savvy women—mothers, many of us homeschoolers—who know how to balance family life while bringing our education, experience, and dedication to small businesses. We believe that supporting entrepreneurs and nonprofits strengthens families and communities, and we’re proud to serve as a reliable, caring extension of the teams we work with.

What products or services are you most proud of offering?

At PandaManage, we provide more than bookkeeping—we provide peace of mind. Our team takes on the details that weigh business owners down: tracking expenses, entering bills, following up on invoices, and keeping the numbers in order. By handling these essential tasks, we give our clients the freedom to focus on what they do best—growing their business, serving their customers, and pursuing their mission.

How has your business evolved since you started?

Before launching PandaManage, I served as CFO and COO for a San Diego–based nonprofit supporting women in recovery. When the organization had to downsize in the early 2010s, I took a step back from full-time leadership. Around that time, a close friend asked if I could help with bookkeeping for her clients.

What began with just two small clients in the San Diego Jewelry Building grew steadily through word of mouth and referrals. Today, PandaManage proudly supports over 25 active clients. Along the way, we’ve expanded from offering basic bookkeeping to providing a full suite of financial services, including budgeting, training, forensic accounting, and freelance CFO support.

What’s a typical day like balancing running your business and motherhood?

A “typical” day balancing motherhood and running my business? Let’s just say there’s no such thing as typical. Most mornings start with a strong cup of tea and a quick scan of emails—while also scanning the living room for missing shoes or mysteriously sticky surfaces. By mid-morning, I’m toggling between reconciling client accounts and negotiating snack distribution like it’s a high-stakes business deal.

It’s not unusual for me to be deep into QuickBooks while helping my son with his homeschool work, or to take a Zoom call while quietly sliding Legos off my desk. Somewhere in between, I’ll catch myself thinking, “Did I send that invoice, or was that just in my head?”—only to realize the same question applies to whether I actually switched the laundry.

The truth is, some days the numbers balance before the laundry does, and other days it’s the reverse. But by bedtime, if my clients’ books are in order and my son is happy, I call that a successful day.

What has been the most rewarding part of your entrepreneurial journey?

The most rewarding part has been seeing the impact—both big and small—that PandaManage has on people’s lives. For my clients, it’s giving them peace of mind and freeing them up to focus on their passion instead of drowning in numbers. For my team, it’s creating meaningful, flexible work for other moms who are incredibly talented but often overlooked in traditional workplaces. And for me personally, it’s the joy of showing my kids that you can build something from the ground up, serve others well, and still be present for family life. That balance isn’t always perfect, but the journey has been deeply fulfilling.

What challenges have you faced in growing your business, and how have you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to grow without losing the personal touch that makes PandaManage unique. In the beginning, it was just me, so I knew every client’s books inside and out. As we added more clients and expanded services, I had to learn to trust others, delegate, and build systems that allowed us to scale while still delivering the same level of care.

Another challenge has been balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship—time is always the hardest resource to manage. I’ve had to get really good at prioritizing, setting boundaries, and accepting that some days won’t go as planned (and that’s okay).

I’ve overcome these challenges by building a strong team of like-minded women, leaning into technology, and reminding myself that growth doesn’t mean doing everything—it means creating a business that supports clients and the people who run it.

How do you reach and connect with your customers or community?

For us, connection has always started with relationships. In the early days, our business grew almost entirely through word of mouth and referrals—one happy client telling another about the peace of mind we provided. That spirit of personal connection is still at the heart of how we reach people today.

We connect with our community by showing up where small businesses and nonprofits need support—whether that’s through QuickBooks ProAdvisor, networking with other entrepreneurs, or simply being a reliable resource when someone feels overwhelmed by their books. We also believe in sharing knowledge freely, so training, tips, and guidance are part of how we build trust.

At the end of the day, our goal isn’t just to find customers, it’s to create partnerships. We want our clients to feel like they have a teammate in their corner—someone who celebrates their wins, eases their stress, and helps them keep moving forward.

What advice would you give to other moms considering starting their own business?

My advice to other moms is this: don’t wait for the ‘perfect time’—because it doesn’t exist. Start small, start messy if you have to, but just start. Lean into the skills you already have, and don’t underestimate how valuable they are to others.

Give yourself permission to grow slowly and to build a business that works for you and your family, not the other way around. There will be days when you feel like you’re juggling too much, but remember that motherhood has already made you resourceful, adaptable, and strong—those are exactly the qualities that make a great entrepreneur.

How do you and your family like to spend time together when you’re not working?

When I’m not helping clients balance their books, I’m focused on balancing family life. Our family loves traveling to new places, glamping, discovering great food, and simply enjoying quality time together. Weekends often mean cheering at a swim meet or flag football game—and on quieter days, you’ll find us curled up on the couch with pizza and Netflix. For me, it’s all about balance: building a business I love while making memories with the people who matter most.
