The Modesto Children’s Museum (MoChiMu) may be temporarily closed (Sept. 15-26), but that doesn’t mean the fun has stopped! In partnership with the Stanislaus Arts Council, MoChiMu is taking the magic outdoors with a brand-new community project: “Bringing MoChiMu to You” — a playful chalk art installation popping up across Stanislaus and San Joaquin County.
Starting September 21, 2025, families will find immersive chalk art installations inspired by MoChiMu’s favorite exhibits. From the splashy fun of the Water Lab to the colorful imagination of the Color Story Train, each piece is designed to be walked on, jumped over, and played through.
“This initiative isn’t just about art—it’s about turning everyday spaces into places of wonder,” shared Andrea Durossette, MoChiMu’s Marketing Coordinator. “We’re meeting families where they are and giving them a taste of MoChiMu’s creativity and curiosity while we get ready to reopen.”
Where to Find the Chalk Art
You’ll be able to spot these magical installations at local favorites:
- Modesto: Bookish / Virginia Trail
- Turlock: Meadow & Rose
- Ripon: Austin’s Coffee Crafters, Primos, The Beauty Barr, Ripon Social
- Escalon: Sunday, Fox & Mane, Pencie & Ginger
Visit the Modesto Children Museum site HERE for more details!
Each artwork is crafted by a local artist and includes fun, interactive prompts like “jump,” “spin,” or “pretend” — giving kids (and grown-ups!) the perfect excuse to play. Plus, you’ll find QR codes at each site linking to more info about MoChiMu and a full map of all the installations.
Why Families Will Love It
- It’s free and accessible for everyone
- Encourages kids to move, play, and imagine
- Builds connections through local art and culture
- Offers a sneak peek of MoChiMu magic while the museum gets ready to reopen
The chalk art installations will remain in place through September 26, 2025 (weather permitting) — so grab the kids, go exploring, and bring a little MoChiMu magic into your week!
